Battle Of The Bulge

A desperate Hitler decided to stage one last offense as the allies advanced towards the German border. His goal was to cut off allied supplies from coming through Antwerp. Thus, the attack began on December 16, 1944. Moving rapidly, the Germans were able to catch the American soldiers by surprise. It was called the Battle Of The Bulge because as the German troops raced west, their lines bent outward. General Patton was then sent to rescue the Americans that were surrounded by Germans. As a result, America won the Battle of the Bulge because the Germans had to withdraw. After much more fighting through the Rhine River, Germany was forced to accept that they had been defeated. On May 8, 1945, it was proclaimed to be V-E Day.
